Frequently Asked Questions

About Us

  • We’re in Northeast Texas, just outside Sulphur Springs, surrounded by rolling pastures, oak trees, and Stout Creek itself.

  • We are a regenerative farm, which means we work with nature, not against it, to restore soil health, improve biodiversity, and produce nutrient-dense food. We rotate multiple species of animals and grow plants in ways that rebuild the land.

  • Stout Creek Farm is owned and operated by Brent Barry and Susan Cox, along with Ben Cox, and a small but mighty team of animals, plants, and people working together.

Products & Purchasing

  • We raise grass-finished Red Poll beef cattle and sheep, and pasture-raised goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and ducks, plus seasonal vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

  • While we aren’t certified organic, we follow beyond organic regenerative practices: no synthetic fertilizers, no chemical herbicides, and no antibiotics for growth promotion.

  • You can find our products in the DFW area and right here at home:

    • DFW Area: Good Local Farmers Markets, McKinney Farmers Market, and The Heritage Table restaurant

    • Local: Tolleson’s Family Market (Sulphur Springs), Mount Vernon Farmers Market, Winnsboro Farmers Market, and direct from the farm with a 10% discount for on-farm purchases

  • At this time we focus on customers within a 100-mile range of the farm. We occasionally offer pre-orders for on-farm pickup.

Visiting the Farm

  • Yes. We offer seasonal tours, workshops, and open farm days. Our agritourism offerings are growing, and soon you’ll be able to stay overnight in one of our farm cottages.

  • Absolutely. We love helping kids connect with where their food comes from. Just bring closed-toe shoes.

  • We occasionally host small group events, farm-to-table dinners, and educational workshops. Contact us to learn more.

Farming Practices

  • It means we’re not just sustaining the land, we’re improving it. We build soil health, increase biodiversity, capture carbon, and create resilient ecosystems.

  • Each species plays a role: cattle graze tall grass, sheep and goats clear brush, pigs aerate soil, and poultry fertilize and control pests. Together, they create balance.

  • We prioritize animal welfare with pasture-raising, regular rotation, clean water, fresh forage, and shelter. No confinement barns.

Sustainability & Community

  • Regenerative farms like ours sequester carbon, protect waterways, and rebuild healthy ecosystems, all while producing clean, healthy food.

  • Buy local, tell friends, join our mailing list, follow us on social media, and spread the word about regenerative farming and ranching. Visit us when you can. Every purchase and every conversation helps keep the land thriving.
